Freeway Flooding in West Pasadena Prompts Early Morning SigAlert

Two lanes of eastbound State Route 134 were shut down late Thursday due to significant flooding between San Rafael Avenue and Orange Grove Boulevard, causing multiple vehicles to become stranded.

The California Highway Patrol reported flooding began around 10:20 p.m., with two right lanes submerged. Two vehicles became disabled in the flooded area, prompting CHP officers to coordinate with Pasadena Police Department to close the San Rafael Avenue onramp to eastbound SR-134.

Emergency responders called for multiple tow trucks to assist the stranded vehicles. Royal Coaches Towing and A-Car Auto were dispatched to the scene with estimated arrival times of 25 and 15 minutes respectively.

CHP officers worked to push disabled vehicles clear of the flooding while awaiting assistance. One vehicle, described as light-colored, was reported stalled in the slow lane.

Officials issued a SigAlert for the affected area, which was extended for an additional two hours shortly before 1 a.m. Friday as crews continued to address the flooding situation.

The closure remained in effect between San Rafael Avenue and Orange Grove Boulevard while crews worked to clear the roadway.
