Friends In Deed announced Wednesday it will reopen its weather-activated Bad Weather Shelter on Dec. 8 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pasadena. The seasonal program aims to safeguard individuals experiencing homelessness from the dangers of winter weather, offering warmth, food, and access to essential services.

“Each winter, the Bad Weather Shelter becomes a place of safety and connection for our most vulnerable neighbors,” said Ryan Greer, vice president of programs at Friends In Deed.

“We hope to continue providing these services to those who need them most while also doing whatever we can to connect individuals to all the resources they need to promote stability and address their barriers to housing. This work is possible thanks to our continued partnership with Trinity Lutheran Church and the City of Pasadena, as well as the generosity of our community.”

The shelter will activate on nights when forecasts predict temperatures of 40 degrees or below, a 40 percent chance or more of rain, or high winds of at least 40 miles per hour. Guests will receive a hot meal, a cot, restroom access, and individualized assistance from trained staff and case managers who can help

connect them with housing, employment, and other essential services. Check-in runs from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., and residents can confirm whether the shelter is open by calling (888) 915-8111.

Friends In Deed encourages local residents to support the effort through donations or volunteer service to sustain the shelter and its other vital programs, including The Women’s Room, Food Pantry, Street Outreach and Housing, and Eviction Prevention and Rental Assistance initiatives.
