Three Fuller Theological Seminary students took the top prize on a never-before seen episode of bible trivia game, “The American Bible Challenge,” which aired nationally on Thursday night.

The students — Sam Altis and Drew Vinson from Fuller’s School of Theology and Matthew Blanton from the School of Intercultural Studies – were chosen to be contestants on the Game Show Network’s “The American Bible Challenge” hosted by comedian Jeff Foxworthy. Their team was one of a number of Fuller teams that auditioned to appear on the show.

On Thursday, a viewing party was hosted at the University Club of Pasadena where about 75 students, staff, friends and family members cheered for the team as they took the lead early on, avoiding elimination in the first round. Screams and applause erupted when the team beat their opponents by correctly answering more questions in the final, lightning-style round.

Their prize was $20,000 to go to the charity of their choice. The Fuller team, called “The Boys Next Door,” chose Oasis, a faith-based non-profit organization that works to end human trafficking. Vinson and Blanton told the audience at the viewing party that many members of their church support Oasis and it was a natural choice for them to make.

A representative from the non-profit attended the viewing party and expressed gratitude for the team’s donation. Two show producers gave away Game Show Network t-shirts and caps and told the crowd how excited they were to have Fuller represented on the show, which was the number one viewed show on the Network when it first premiered in August.

Altis, Vinson and Blanton will go on to compete in the show’s semi-finals, which will air in two weeks.
