Pasadena Water and Power has resumed the Grand Avenue Water Main Replacement Project to replace a 90-year-old water main, announced David M. Reyes, Interim General Manager of Water and Power. The project will upgrade the existing 6-to-4 inch line to a 12-to-8-inch ductile iron mainline pipe to reinforce the reliability of PWP’s water service.
Construction will begin near the intersection of Green Street and Grand Avenue in January 2025 and continue south along Grand Avenue, passing Del Rosa Drive, Maylin Street, Ellis Street, Arbor Street, and Lockshaven Street before reaching California Boulevard. The eight-month project is scheduled for completion in August 2025.
To minimize impact on the community, construction efforts will be contained to approximately one block at a time. Special efforts will be taken to minimize inconvenience for residents and customers. Work will occur Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Temporary lane closures will occur intermittently during construction, with detour signs posted at all times. Construction will require various heavy equipment including excavators, backhoes, loaders, and construction trucks. Businesses in the area will remain open and accessible throughout the project period.
Water service interruptions will occur intermittently during construction. Crews will provide notice of any water service interruptions at least 48 hours in advance.
