John Harabedian, a candidate for the State Senate District 25 primary to replace the termed out Anthony Portantino, announced Saturday that his campaign has raised $514,935.39 before the June 30 California FPPC reporting deadline.

The news was reported by Derek Humphrey, a consultant for Harabedian’s campaign.

“John Harabedian is not messing around. His remarkable fundraising achievement speaks to hard work and an impressive grassroots network of support he has cultivated through his years of dedicated public service and his professional life,” Humphrey said.

Harabedian, a California State Commission President, has deep roots in Sierra Madre, the heart of the 25th State Senate District. He was born and raised in the city, served on the Sierra Madre City Council from 2012 to 2020, and held the position of Mayor twice.

In addition to his political career, Harabedian has an extensive legal background. He has worked at the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, the prestigious law firm Latham & Watkins, Stanford’s Immigrants’ Rights Clinic, and the Equality Pro Bono Project. He has also served as a Policy Analyst for Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s office and as a CORO Fellow with AFSCME District Council 36. Currently, he practices law at a finance firm.

Harabedian’s contributions to the Democratic Party are noteworthy. He serves as a Regional Vice Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, an Executive Board Member of the California Democratic Party, and a Board Member of the Immigration Resource Center of San Gabriel Valley. The Los Angeles County Democratic Party named Harabedian as Assembly District 41’s “Democrat of the Year” in 2020.

As an alumnus of Loyola High School, Yale University, Oxford University, and Stanford University, Harabedian’s academic credentials are impressive.

He currently resides in Pasadena with his wife, Young-Gi, and their three children.
