Honorable Mark Ridley-Thomas and Elizabeth Hoxworth

Hathaway-Sycamores Child and Family Services will honor Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas and local philanthropist Elizabeth Hoxworth at the 11th Annual Celebrating Children Spring Gala fundraiser on March 28th in recognition of their tireless dedication, leadership and commitment to improving the lives of children, families and adults in the Los Angeles community.

The Honorable Mark Ridley-Thomas has served on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors since he was overwhelmingly elected to represent the Second District in 2008. Supervisor Ridley-Thomas has distinguished himself as an effective leader, and among other accomplishments he authored and led Los Angeles County’s unprecedented effort to end homelessness through Measure H. Mark Ridley-Thomas was first elected to public office in 1991 and served with distinction on the Los Angeles City Council for nearly a dozen years, departing as Council President Pro Tempore. He later served two terms in the California State Assembly. His legislative work addressed a broad range of issues with implications for economic and workforce development, health care, public safety, education, budget accountability, consumer protection and civic participation. Ridley-Thomas’ political career was preceded by a decade of service as the executive director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Greater Los Angeles (1981-1991).

Elizabeth Hoxworth has recently completed her second year as Chair of the Board of Hathaway-Sycamores. She has been active with the organization for over 30 years, first as a volunteer and later as a board member. During her tenure, the organization has expanded from one campus in Altadena to 10 locations across Los Angeles County. Elizabeth has assisted in increasing privately raised funds to support the many programs the organization has championed over the years, which has allowed Hathaway-Sycamores to be one of the first to invest in helping transition age youth into supportive housing. Elizabeth has been in the commercial real estate business for 35 years and has been able to utilize her negotiating and strategic planning talents for Hathaway-Sycamores several times over the years.

The gala will be held at the spectacular Vibiana, located in the historic core of Downtown Los Angeles. In addition to raising funds to help prevent homelessness for transition-age youth in Los Angeles County, guests at the March 28th event will sip cocktails in Vibiana’s charming Garden Courtyard before enjoying dinner in the Main Hall followed by a special musical performance by Davis Gaines, Broadway actor and Los Angeles’ longest-running Phantom of the Opera. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and concludes at 10:30 p.m. and will truly be a night to remember!

The Celebrating Children Spring Gala committee is co-chaired by Pasadena residents Rita Henderson and Karen Palmersheim. Formerly the Community Affairs Manager for Nestlé USA, Rita Henderson is a longtime Hathaway-Sycamores donor and supporter. Karen Palmersheim is the Senior Counsel for Cigna Legal and serves on the Hathaway-Sycamores Board of Directors.
