Hearing Tuesday on $5.9 Million in Federal Housing and Homeless Grants at City Hall

The Pasadena City Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday, Sept. 29, on the city’s annual report to the federal government on what its housing and community development grants accomplished.

The report covers three U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development programs: the Community Development Block Grant, the Emergency Solutions Grant and the HOME Investment Partnership Act. Pasadena’s funds from the three, including unspent money from previous years, totaled about $5.9 million in the program year that ended June 30. The council is being asked to approve submitting the report.

Social service projects paid for with block grant funds served 1,938 people with programs that included food distribution, homeless services and youth programs, the Housing Department reported. The department reported no accomplishments yet for public facility improvements, rental housing construction or business grants. It said those projects are under construction on multiyear timelines.

The public comment period runs through Sept. 29, according to a city public notice. Mailed comments had to be postmarked by Sept. 25, but members of the public can still comment at the hearing before it closes. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Council Chamber, Room S249, at Pasadena City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Ave., and can be joined online at cityofpasadena.net/cczoom.
