Homeless Services Chief to Address Pasadena Rotary on Homelessness Solutions

Katie Hill, chief executive officer of Union Station Homeless Services, will speak at the Rotary Club of Pasadena’s weekly luncheon on Wednesday, Sept. 17, delivering a talk titled “Housing Our Neighbors, One Person at a Time.” The event will be held at The University Club, 175 N. Oakland Ave., with lunch at noon, meeting at 12:30 p.m., and Hill’s presentation scheduled from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. Admission is $45 at the door.

Hill leads Union Station Homeless Services (USHS), one of Los Angeles County’s most prominent homeless service organizations. Headquartered in Pasadena, USHS operates 17 housing sites for individuals and families across the region, offering not only shelter but also supportive services aimed at addressing the root causes of homelessness. The organization recently received over $1.8 million in Measure A funding to expand rapid rehousing and emergency shelter programs.

Under Hill’s leadership, USHS has responded to major challenges, including the aftermath of the Eaton Fire, which displaced thousands across Southern California. The organization launched the Eaton Fire Housing Assistance Program to provide financial aid, motel vouchers, and rental support for affected households3. Despite these efforts, USHS continues to face funding volatility and community resistance to housing developments, including past setbacks involving Housing First initiatives.

Before joining USHS, Hill held senior roles at PATH and HOPICS, overseeing budgets exceeding $100 million and implementing data-driven strategies that transitioned thousands from homelessness into stable housing. Her approach emphasizes trauma-informed care and multidisciplinary partnerships. “None of us can do this alone,” Hill said in a December 2024 interview. “We have to recognize that the effort of an entire community is needed to make a meaningful impact”.

Hill also served in Congress, representing California’s 25th District, where she built bipartisan coalitions around housing, healthcare, and economic equity. Her dual experience in public policy and direct service informs her belief that lasting solutions require both grassroots engagement and systemic reform.

The talk will take place during the Rotary Club of Pasadena’s weekly luncheon at The University Club, located at 175 N. Oakland Ave. in Pasadena. Lunch is at 12 p.m., meeting begins at 12:30 p.m., and the featured speaker is scheduled for 1:00-1:30 p.m. Luncheon cost is $45, payable at the door.
