In an effort to unravel the complexities of Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington Medical Research Institutes (HMRI) in Pasadena is hosting a panel discussion on Thursday, Oct. 26, starting at 6 p.m., at the Institute’s location, 686 South Fair Oaks Ave.

The event, part of the HMRI Heart-Brain Community Education Series, is free to attend.

With this discussion, HMRI hopes to raise awareness and to foster understanding, empathy, and hope among not only patients but also entire families and communities that are impacted by Alzheimer’s.

The experts on the panel will offer unique perspectives from the fields of epidemiology, neurology, community health, and caregiving.

The panel includes Dr. Julia Bradsher, HMRI President and CEO. Dr. Bradsher’s leadership and insights into medical research will provide a broader understanding of the institutional approach to tackling Alzheimer’s.

Dr. Astrid Suchy-Dicey, HMRI Associate Professor in Clinical Neurosciences and the Director of the Brain Aging Study, will discuss the neurological aspects of Alzheimer’s. Her work in clinical research brings valuable insights into the disease’s mechanisms.

Dr. Yafa Minizad, a board-certified Neurologist and Neurophysiologist, and a Visiting Professor at HMRI, will offer a clinical perspective on Alzheimer’s. Her expertise in neurology provides a crucial link between research and patient care.

Dr. Tabia Robinson, Associate Vice President for Community Education and Health Equity at Alzheimer’s Los Angeles, will contribute insights into the community health and equity aspects of Alzheimer’s. Her work focuses on outreach, support, and education for those affected by the disease.

Former coach and college athletics administrator Jamie Jackson is moderating the panel discussion. Jackson is also a full-time Alzheimer’s caregiver and offers a first-hand perspective on the challenges and triumphs faced by those caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s.

The event is open to the public, but RSVP is required.
