Although the National Weather Service has delayed implementation of “particularly dangerous situation” (PDS) red flag warnings, Pasadena’s red flag warning will remain in effect until at least Wednesday evening.
Fire Chief Chad Augustin has the power to enact and cancel the warnings.
“I cannot stress enough the need to remain on high alert for all of our community,” Augustin told the City Council on Monday.
“There is a potential for new evacuations to be declared and that risk will continue through Wednesday afternoon evening, January 15th.”
According to the National Weather Service, a red flag warning means warm temperatures, very low humidities, and stronger winds are expected to combine to produce an increased risk of fire danger.
The National Weather Service delay is due to Santa Ana winds developing slower and weaker than originally anticipated.
The PDS red flag warnings were supposed to begin early this morning and continue until 3 a.m. tomorrow.
The National Weather Service regular red flag warning will continue to be in place until 6 p.m. Wednesday in much of Los Angeles County. However, it will stay in place until 3 p.m. Thursday in the western San Gabriel Mountains and the 5 and 14 freeway corridors.
A red flag warning by the National Weather Service has been canceled in the San Gabriel Valley.
