A single gunshot was fired at Garfield Park on Friday morning, leading to the arrest of a juvenile suspect, according to the South Pasadena Police Department.

The incident began with a verbal confrontation between two parties around 11:21 a.m. on the 800 block of Park Avenue. As police officers were responding, they received information that the situation had escalated into a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers confirmed that a shot had been fired from Park Avenue into the park, which was populated with children and families at the time.

No injuries were reported.

The suspect, described as a Hispanic male wearing a pink hooded sweatshirt and a balaclava-type “ski mask,” fled in an older model blue Toyota Camry with rear traffic collision damage.

There were possibly two other men in the vehicle wearing dark hooded sweatshirts.

The vehicle and driver were later located in the Northeast area of Los Angeles. The juvenile suspect is now in custody, and South Pasadena Police Detectives are currently searching for the two outstanding subjects.

The investigation is ongoing, and Garfield Park was reopened for public use several hours after the shooting.
