Statement from the Altadena Chamber of Commerce President on the Eaton Wildfire
Dear Members and Friends,
I address you today with a heavy heart as we come to terms with the devastating impacts of the Eaton Wildfire that swept through Altadena, California affecting all aspects of our local businesses on Tuesday, January 7. Many of our members and neighbors have lost their businesses, homes, cherished belongings, and tragically, some have lost their lives. The destruction brought by these fires is heartbreaking and leaves a mark on our landscape and our hearts forever.
As we brace for the possibility of more winds, the images and stories emerging from the affected areas serve as a stark reminder of the strength and resilience required in the face of such adversity, particularly as we reflect on some of our historic areas. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this disaster-first responders, families, friends, and business owners grappling with this loss.
The Altadena Chamber of Commerce & Civic Association is established to promote the educational, commercial, industrial, general, professional, and civic interests of the community of the unincorporated area known as Altadena and its trade area.
The recovery process will undoubtedly be long and challenging, but I assure you that we will work tirelessly to support those in need. We will coordinate with local organizations and agencies to provide assistance and resources to aid recovery efforts.
The Altadena Chamber’s 101 celebration “Blazing Trails for Local Businesses: 101 Years” is postponed until such time we feel it is appropriate to bring the community together in a truly heartwarming way during 2025!
Let us remain steadfast in our commitment to one another during these trying times. Our solidarity will be a source of hope and inspiration for all affected by this tragedy.
In unity and compassion,
Judy Matthews
