Early last month, the city announced the rollout of paid parking for select areas of the popular neighborhood. Installation of meter kiosks begins this month and continues through November.
No payment will be required during the installation phase, the announcement said. The system goes live in early January.
The program introduces an escalating rate model. Drivers who stay longer than two hours will pay progressively higher fees. City officials say the structure encourages parking turnover for merchants and visitors.
Payment options include the Passport smartphone app and credit cards at multi-space pay stations. The stations will be installed along sidewalks throughout designated zones.
Current time limits in Playhouse Village often restrict how long visitors can park. The new system allows for longer stays, though at increasing cost.
Revenue from the meters will fund multiple initiatives. Money will support parking infrastructure maintenance and upgrades. Additional funds will go toward pedestrian amenities and streetscape improvements.
Local mobility programs will also receive financial support. Neighborhood beautification and public safety efforts round out the planned uses.
City officials describe the change as the result of years of planning and community input. They frame the policy as an investment in public amenities.
The program aims to make parking more accessible while enhancing the pedestrian experience. Officials say the benefits will support the neighborhood’s long-term vitality.
Testing of equipment will occur during the October-November installation window. Full operational details and rate information are available on https://www.cityofpasadena.
