
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Local 311 has endorsed Phlunte Riddle for Assembly.
“I am thrilled to earn the support of Machinists Local 311. My husband is a retired Machinist and served as Union Senior Steward,” Riddle said in a statement on Wednesday. “Our union membership helped us purchase a home, provided medical for our children, and set us up for a secure retirement. Every family deserves these benefits, and I look forward to collaborating with the Machinists to create those opportunities for our San Gabriel Valley and High Desert residents.”
IAM Local 311 represents more than 1,500 active and retired workers in the greater Los Angeles area. The union fights for increased job security, better wages, benefits, and safer worksites.
Assembly District 41 is located in eastern Los Angeles County and western San Bernardino County, including the San Gabriel Valley communities of Pasadena, Altadena, La Cañada Flintridge, Sierra Madre, Monrovia, San Dimas, La Verne, and Claremont and Inland Empire communities of Upland, Phelan, Lytle Creek, Rancho Cucamonga, Wrightwood, and Hesperia.
Riddle is running for the seat currently held by Assemblymember Chris Holden (D-Pasadena) Holden has held this seat since 2012, but cannot run due to term limits. He has endorsed Riddle.
Riddle spent nearly 30 years at the Pasadena Police Department, moving through the ranks as a patrol officer, detective, and community liaison. She broke barriers when she became the first African American female sergeant, lieutenant, and then sworn Adjutant to the Chief of Police in the history of the Pasadena Police Department.
In 2019, Governor Gavin Newsom appointed her as a Board of Juvenile Discharge Hearings Commissioner with California’s Division of Juvenile Justice, which the California Senate confirmed with a 39-0 vote. She owns a consulting company, where she trains executives helping them to solve generational communications challenges within organizations.
Riddle has been married for over 40 years to her husband, Edgar. Together, they have three married sons and six amazing grandchildren.
