The Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine, located in Pasadena, has named three senior associate deans as it prepares to launch its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan next month, according to a statement released by the school.

The appointments include Moe Aboufares, MBA, CPA, as Senior Associate Dean and Chief Financial and Operations Officer; Nahid Rianon, MBBS, DrPH, as Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs; and Carla Lupi, MD, as Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education.

Aboufares, who has served in a leadership role at the school since 2021, will oversee finance, operations, facilities, and information technology. His appointment marks a significant milestone in the school’s institutional development, the statement said.

Rianon joins from McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, where she led faculty development and mentoring programs. At Kaiser Permanente, she will guide initiatives in faculty career growth, appointments and promotions, and scholarly advancement.

Lupi, a founding member of the school’s leadership team, has served as interim dean for medical education since 2024. She will continue to lead curriculum integration, faculty development, and educational innovation. The school noted her national recognition in competency-based education and her contributions to inclusive learning environments.

The Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine opened in Pasadena in 2020 and offers a reimagined curriculum that integrates biomedical, clinical, and health systems sciences. The program emphasizes cutting-edge technology, pedagogical innovation, and a mission to advance medical education.

The forthcoming strategic plan is expected to outline priorities for academic growth, faculty advancement, and curricular refinement through 2030.
