On July 25, workers at Kidspace Children’s Museum officially filed for a union election with the National Labor Relations Board.
According to an email received by Pasadena Now the effort received “supermajority support among workers.”
“I’m very excited that we’ve reached this next step of the NLRB election filing. It has been very fulfilling to connect with staff and come together as a community with each other, all with a common belief that Kidspace can be better,” said Lou Douglas, animal programs coordinator.
Kidspace Museum has increased staffing levels by 80% since workers first announced their unionization efforts last May, union organizers said.
The email described the increase as an “obvious union busting tactic.”
If the workers vote to unionize, they would be the first unionized children’s museum in Los Angeles County, and a strong majority of workers have already signed union authorization cards, according to a statement released in May.
Kidspace Children’s Museum is located in the Arroyo Seco and offers experiences for children aged 1-10. Situated on a 3.5-acre campus near the historic Rose Bowl, the museum features over 40 hands-on exhibits designed to spark exploration and imaginative play.
“Workers are excited to move forward with attaining union.” according to the email.
