Knox Presbyterian Church in Pasadena is inviting the community to join in a series of worship services and gatherings marking Holy Week and Easter.
The church will begin its observances with a Palm Sunday worship service at 10 a.m. on March 29, when congregants will receive palm branches as the congregation recalls the biblical account of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem.
On April 2 at 7 p.m., Knox will hold a Maundy Thursday Tenebrae service in the sanctuary. Often referred to as a “service of shadows,” the Tenebrae service reflects on the final hours of Jesus’ life, recounting the Last Supper, betrayal, trial and crucifixion. Adults and youth are invited to attend in the sanctuary. Children in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade will participate in a separate program in Knox’s Atrium, and childcare will be available for children ages 3 and younger.
The church will observe Good Friday at 7 p.m. on April 3 with a contemplative and interactive service featuring music, a guided journey through portions of the Stations of the Cross and time set aside for reflection on the final days of Jesus’ earthly ministry.
The week’s observances will conclude with Easter Sunday worship at 10 a.m. on April 5, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Following the service, the congregation will host a pancake brunch, and children will be invited to take part in an egg hunt on the church lawn.
All services and events will be held on the Knox Presbyterian Church campus at 225 S. Hill Ave., at the corner of Hill Avenue and Del Mar Boulevard in Pasadena.
