L.A. County Registrar Begins Mailing Sample Ballots to Pasadena Voters for Nov. 3 Election

Los Angeles County has begun mailing sample ballot booklets to every registered voter the county ahead of the Nov. 3 general election, Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean C. Logan announced Thursday, Sept. 24.

The ballotbookletss, which the county says cover candidates, measures and voting options, arrive ahead of the official ballots themselves: the office said it will begin sending vote-by-mail ballots to all registered voters Oct. 1.

For Pasadena voters, the Nov. 3 ballot notably includes Measure PFD, the city’s proposed fire and emergency services parcel tax, as well as local school board district elections.

The county will keep mailing sample ballots through Oct. 24, according to the announcement. The California Secretary of State mails a separate State Voter Information Guide, which is also available online.

Election materials are available in English and 18 additional languages, the registrar’s office said. Voters can ask for materials in another language by returning the Language Request Form at the back of the sample ballot book or by calling the county’s multilingual assistance hotline.

The last day to register to vote for the Nov. 3 election is Oct. 19, according to the Secretary of State. Voters who miss that deadline can conditionally register and vote with a provisional ballot from Oct. 20 through Nov. 3.

Official ballot drop boxes open the same day vote-by-mail ballots begin going out, and vote centers open Oct. 24 and stay open through Election Day, the county said in an Aug. 21 announcement. Voters may return a ballot at a drop box, by mail or in person at any vote center in the county. Mailed ballots must be postmarked on or before Nov. 3, and the Secretary of State advises mailing them at least seven days ahead to be sure of the postmark.

The county sent outreach postcards to about 4.8 million registered voters in August.

“Providing voters with clear and accessible information early is an important part of preparing for the General Election,” Logan said at the time.

Measure PFD would levy an annual special tax of 19 cents per square foot of improved property, raising an estimated $22.1 million a year, and would expire after 14 years. Because it is a special tax, it needs approval from two-thirds of voters. The City Council placed it on the ballot Aug. 3.

Voters can also build a personal voting plan online or by texting PLAN to 528683, according to the county.
