Los Angeles County officials announced Thursday the release of a series of resource maps designed to help service providers navigate the county’s homeless response system and connect people with housing and supportive services.

The Department of Homeless Services and Housing developed separate System Resource Maps for single adults, families with children, and youth and young adults, with input from community members, service providers, public agencies and other partners.

“Our goal is simple: to make a complex system easier to understand and help those assisting people experiencing homelessness connect them to the resources that best meet their needs,” HSH Chief Program Officer Leepi Shimkhada said in a message announcing the maps.

County officials described the maps as visual guides to housing and supportive services available throughout Los Angeles County.

Officials said the initial maps are a first step and will be updated based on feedback about their content, design and usability.

“These maps are a first step, and we know they will continue to evolve,” Shimkhada said. “As technology improves and as you provide feedback on the content, design, and usability, we will continue to make them better and more useful.”

The department plans to translate the maps into additional languages and make them available on its website.

Additional maps are also being developed for specific populations, including people affected by gender-based violence, older adults, people with disabilities, people involved in the criminal justice system and veterans.

The department is seeking feedback from service providers and others about resources that may be missing from the maps or additional information that should be included.

County officials said they hope the maps will improve coordination among service providers and help more people experiencing homelessness find appropriate housing, services and other assistance.
