The League of Women Voters Pasadena Area will hold its annual Ice Cream Social from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at the historic Maxwell House, 55 S. Grand Ave., a $10-a-ticket event the nonpartisan organization says supports its work encouraging voter participation in civic life ahead of a November ballot carrying 14 statewide propositions.
The League said each ticket includes unlimited Fosselman’s ice cream or sorbet with fixings, a raffle ticket that automatically lets the holder enter one of 10 separate raffles, and a chance to bid on tickets to hear Justin Trudeau or Hillary Rodham Clinton at the Pasadena Distinguished Speaker Series.
“Give yourself a treat and help defend democracy,” the League urged.
Admission is $10 for guests 14 and older, groups of three or more pay $30 total, and children 13 and younger attend free, according to the League. The venue is air conditioned and nearby parking is free.
Raffle prizes include gift certificates to Vroman’s Bookstore, the Pasadena Symphony, California Pizza Kitchen and others, the League said. Activities include a get-to-know-you Bingo game and a chance to create your own T-shirt.
The League said it will provide information about voting, candidate forums and its pros and cons forums, which it said will help attendees navigate the propositions on the November ballot.
“Join us and be a defender of democracy… and get a chance to enjoy an afternoon with interesting, involved people,” the League said.
The speaker series the League is auctioning seats to sells its Pasadena evenings only as six-speaker subscription packages and does not sell individual tickets, according to the series. Its Pasadena season opens Oct. 19 with Trudeau, Canada’s 23rd prime minister, and brings Clinton to the Pasadena Civic Auditorium at 300 E. Green St. on Feb. 24, 2027.
The League of Women Voters Pasadena Area is a nonprofit public charity and describes itself as nonpartisan, “never supporting or opposing any political party or candidate,” according to its website.
