La Cañada Flintridge’s St. Francis High School has announced its Summer School curriculum and programs, and with it, its plans to offer classes to both boys and girls for the summer.
High school courses and athletic training camps are offered in St. Francis’ summer lineup, which will serve as a great entry point for students looking to enroll for high school as well as for parents looking to instill Franciscan values in their children.
“It is our Capuchin Franciscan tradition that calls us to emphasize the Franciscan values in all aspects of campus life at St. Francis. Therefore, even with our summer school program, we focus on enriching the mind and the heart of the students. Not only are they receiving an excellent education, they are also developing into young men and women of character and integrity,†said Andrew Burghdorf, a graduate of St. Francis and its current Public Relations Director in early May.
The summer school’s various programs also aim for interpersonal development aside from its academic and athletic aspects.
“Some of our programs, which are unique, do just that – we have a leadership program, we have a study skills program – which really focus on getting them (the students) what they need to succeed here at St. Francis,†said Burghdorf of the multi-dimensional summer school programs.
The program will run from June 25, 2012 to July 27, 2012. This, according to Burghdorf, is perfect for students considering going to St. Francis for the following school year.
“It’s an excellent way to orient yourself with St. Francis High School if it’s a school you’re considering for high school. If you’re a middle school student looking at choosing a high school, we hope that our summer school programs will give you a very good taste of spirit and personality of St. Francis,†said Burghdorf.

Burghdorf also sees the summer activities as the perfect jumping-on point for starting with St. Francis as it would allow relationships and friendships to develop before regular school term starts.
“We have 55 partner schools that feed into St. Francis so we have a pretty diverse student body that comes from all over this area. We recognize that when you’re an eighth-grader coming into a new school the most difficult part of the transition can be finding friends. So, for many of these students, coming to summer school gives them the opportunity to meet other students and develop some friendships before the start of school,†said Burghdorf.
