The Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services launched its annual Essential Services Month campaign for August, aiming to inform residents about available assistance programs. Throughout the month, the department will highlight services including food assistance, healthcare, cash aid, employment support, and in-home care for eligible applicants.
The Department of Public Social Services, one of 58 County-level social services agencies in California, provides various programs for residents in need. The campaign seeks to reach those requiring assistance through multiple communication channels and community events.
“DPSS encourages all County of L.A. residents to help share this information with those who need it most,” the department said in a statement. The agency will utilize its weekly “Essential DPSS” newsletter, social media platforms, and informative videos to spread awareness about its programs.
Key services offered by the Department of Public Social Services include CalFresh for food assistance, Medi-Cal for healthcare, and CalWORKs for cash aid. The department also runs employment programs and the In-Home Supportive Services for elderly, blind, or disabled residents.
Residents can learn more about these services through the department’s award-winning “What Is?” video series on its website. The Department of Public Social Services will also share links to videos on applying for services and promote local job fairs and food distribution events.
The campaign emphasizes community engagement in spreading information about available resources. Residents can apply for benefits through the BenefitsCal enrollment site, by calling the Customer Service Center at 866-613-3777, or by visiting Department of Public Social Services offices.
