Julio Cesar Lopez Zavala, 23, was ordered to wear an ankle monitor but was released on his own recognizance after a judge determined he did not pose a threat to public safety, according to KNBC news.
He is scheduled to return to court Oct. 21.
Zavala was arrested Aug. 21 in connection with a brutal assault that occurred during the Aug. 16 concert, part of the Australian electronic group’s North American tour. Pasadena police said Zavala attacked three people after becoming enraged when a drink was spilled on him.
The incident, which unfolded around 8:30 p.m. in a stadium seating area, was captured on video and widely circulated online. The footage shows Zavala exchanging heated words with a woman before delivering a series of punches that knocked her unconscious. Bystanders attempted to intervene, and two others were reportedly injured during the altercation.
Paramedics treated the unconscious woman at the scene, though she was not hospitalized. Police said the attack began after the woman’s boyfriend accidentally spilled a drink on Zavala, who initially left but returned 30 minutes later “screaming death threats,” according to the victim’s account.
Detectives used the video and public tips to identify Zavala, whose face was clearly visible in the recording. Formal charges were pending review by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
