A man died Friday evening after jumping from the Lake Avenue overpass onto the eastbound lanes of the 210 Freeway, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Sam De Sylva.
Officers responded at approximately 5:01 p.m. on June 19 to reports of a man lying on the freeway. Witnesses told police the man had leapt from the overpass. Pasadena Fire Department personnel arrived shortly after and pronounced the man dead at the scene, De Sylva said.
The victim was later determined to be a transient, though authorities have not yet identified him.
The California Highway Patrol assisted Pasadena police by blocking four lanes of traffic until the coroner arrived. All lanes were reopened around 8:00 p.m., De Sylva said.
No further information about the victim, including his age, has been released.
