Man Suffers Multiple Burns in Pressure Washer Explosion

A 47-year-old Chicago man suffered multiple burns Thursday afternoon when a gas container exploded as he was setting up equipment for pressure washing at Muir High School, according to police and a City spokesperson.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. in the 1900 block of Lincoln Avenue, Pasadena Police Lieutenant Andrea Perez reported. Officers responded to reports of a fire at the location.

Upon arrival, officers located the victim with multiple burns on his body, Perez said.

A Fire Dept. spokesperson reported the man was suffering  second and third degree burns. The victim was not a school district employee.

The victim said he was hired to pressure wash the campus and was setting up his equipment. While inside of the trailer, he opened a gas container which exploded and caught on fire, Perez reported.

Several witnesses rushed to assist the injured man before emergency responders arrived on scene, Perez said.

The victim was treated at the location and subsequently transported to a local hospital for further treatment. His current condition is unknown.

No other injuries were reported in connection with the incident, according to Perez.
