After his re-election on Tuesday, District 4 Councilmember Gene Masuda expressed his gratitude to his constituents.
“Thank you, District 4 residents, for your trust and support,” said Masuda.
“Over many months of walking in the neighborhoods, I had the pleasure to connect with many of you, old friends and new ones too. It was an opportunity when you shared your thoughts and concerns. I am grateful for our relationship and together we will continue to work on solutions to improve District 4 and Pasadena.”
Masuda currently has 2,491 votes, 69%, in the District 4 race against Jonathan Horton and John Doyle.
Masuda was elected to the Pasadena City Council in April 2011 to represent East Pasadena.
From 2015 to 2017, he served as Vice Mayor and currently serves on the Legislative Policy Committee and represents the City of Pasadena on the Gold Line Construction Authority and the Gold Line Joint Powers Authority.
In 2020, the voters in the district overwhelmingly chose Masuda. Masuda garnered 59.08% of the vote in his district and outpaced Char Bland, Joe Baghdadlian, and Kevin Wheeler to secure another term.
According to the City’s website, Masuda is dedicated to maintaining the City’s fiscal discipline while protecting police and fire services. As a longtime neighborhood and quality of life advocate, he has a record of working to fight overdevelopment and traffic in order to maintain the character and beauty of residential neighborhoods. He fought to keep the Edison right-of-way from being developed into storage units and opposed the Space Bank development on Foothill Boulevard.
Masuda is a retired business owner and former president of an East Pasadena neighborhood association. He graduated from California State University, Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Gene has a son, a married daughter, and three grandchildren. He and his wife Joanne, a retired public school teacher, have lived in Pasadena for more than 30 years.
