Metro – the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority – will be implementing significant changes to its bus service starting Dec. 15, focusing on increased frequency and improved regional connectivity.
The comprehensive service modifications, based on Metro’s NextGen Bus Plan, will affect multiple routes throughout Los Angeles County, particularly impacting Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley region.
Two Metro bus lines will transition to Pasadena Transit operations, with Line 177 becoming Route 53 and Line 256 transforming into Route 33, offering riders a reduced base fare of $0.75.
Riders can use TAP Cards on Pasadena Transit services, with free transfers between Pasadena Transit routes available for two and a half hours after initial boarding.
Passengers on Pasadena Transit Route 33 will benefit from enhanced service frequency, with buses arriving every 35 minutes instead of the current 50-minute intervals, including weekends.
In a significant restructuring, Metro’s Line 260 will split into two routes, maintaining their shared northbound Pasadena terminal, with one terminating at Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Metro Station and another at Artesia Metro Station.
Both restructured routes will operate every 24 minutes, with the combined service along the shared corridor from Pasadena to Atlantic and Imperial providing buses every 12 minutes.
Line 665, which serves students traveling to Cal State LA through Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles, will see weekday frequency improvements from 50 minutes to 35 minutes, while weekend frequency remains at 50 minutes.
In Pasadena, Metro is adding two new stops on Line 662, including one westbound on Colorado Blvd. at Raymond Avenue, and another southbound on Fair Oaks Blvd. at Colorado Blvd.
The transportation authority has made detailed information about these changes available through metro.net/mybus, where riders can access new schedules and the My Bus tool trip planner.
