Over 150 guests congregated at The Shakespeare Club last month to be part of Pasadena Village’s celebration called “Vintage! Aging in Place Like a Fine Wine” which brought together villagers, friends, and supporters of all ages to celebrate the joys of aging and the remarkable contributions of older adults to the community.
A highlight of the celebration, held on Oct. 26, was the tribute to one of Pasadena Village’s own, Monica Hubbard, along with a special acknowledgment of the support extended by Lagerlof, LLP.
Hubbard, who has dedicated her time to sharing her love of music, supporting women and children, and building community in Altadena, was recognized not only for her pivotal role in Pasadena Village but also for her extensive volunteer contributions. She was awarded the President of the United States’ Lifetime Achievement Volunteer Service Award in recognition of her remarkable impact.
Hubbard’s work has spanned a wide range of organizations and causes, including the Boys and Girls Club of Pasadena, Young & Healthy, ACT, National Women’s Political Caucus Greater Pasadena Area, the Mt. Lowe Chamber Players, and the Advisory Committee for Dr. Phlunté Riddle’s campaign for State Assembly.
She is also a founding board member in numerous organizations, including the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus, Vox Femina LA, The Women’s Room at Friends in Deed, Foster Care Project, and Mt. Lowe Chamber Players. She has been instrumental in creating two women’s e-newsletters, Altadena Women’s Network and Wired Women, which now operate as a combined weekly publication.
During the event, Pat Dawe, a Pasadena Village past president and board member, presented Hubbard with the award.
Pasadena Village President Sue Kujawa also thanked Lagerlof, LLP for their unwavering support of Pasadena Village and the broader nonprofit community in Pasadena and Altadena. On Lagerlof, LLP’s behalf, Jon Primuth, who leads Lagerlof’s elder law practice group, spoke to share the story of an elderly client who passed away in isolation and encouraged those in attendance to reach out to those who might benefit from the close-knit community offered by Pasadena Village.
The event featured the exquisite “Village Vintner” artworks by the talented artist Kären Bagnard – unique pieces in the form of beautifully designed wine bottles, each with whimsical descriptions of individual Villagers. The bottles were on display at Pasadena Village for a limited time.
It also included a silent auction, a wine pull featuring a selection of fine wines, delightful catering by Delicia Catering, and music performed by Art Deco Entertainment.
With over 90% of older adults expressing their desire to remain in their homes as they age, Pasadena Village stands as the sole nonprofit organization in the area committed to supporting aging-in-place older adults.
Pasadena Village said the Convalescent Aid Society, Huntington Health, Trust Properties USA, and Art Deco Entertainment supported the celebration as sponsors.
