MorningStar Senior Living plans a grand opening Thursday, Oct. 1, for its new five-story independent living building for seniors at 995 S. Fair Oaks Ave. in Pasadena.

The building is designed to add 76 independent living suites to MorningStar of Pasadena, the company’s existing assisted living and memory care community next door at 951 S. Fair Oaks Ave., according to the company’s website.

The project has been billed as the third and final phase of the complex, whose first two phases were completed in 2003 and 2008, Urbanize LA reported.

The company says the building was designed by KTGY in collaboration with Aneka Interiors. KTGY’s project page lists a 0.48-acre site and 87 parking spaces. It says the building has its own amenities, including kitchen and dining, a bistro, theater, club room, fitness center and pool.

Urbanize LA reported in October 2024 that construction had begun on the building, which replaced a small office building and a warehouse. The project was presented to Pasadena’s Design Commission in 2022.

MorningStar took over management of the neighboring four-story, 144-unit community in December 2020 and then renovated it, adding memory care, according to the trade publication Seniors Housing Business.

The Colorado-based company says its portfolio includes more than 40 properties with more than 5,000 units in 12 states, either under management or in development. Its alert presents the Pasadena building as a response to growing demand for luxury senior housing.
