A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday morning in a Pasadena courtroom for Guarry Lonnie Shuford III, who is charged with the shooting and killing of a woman at a Pasadena apartment complex last summer that set off an hours-long police manhunt.
Shuford, a 32-year-old parolee from Los Angeles, is charged with the murder of a 34-year-old woman named Jamila Elysse Moss. The incident occurred on August 21, 2023, at an apartment complex in the 200 block of South Raymond Ave. near Old Pasadena.
The broad-daylight killing led to an extensive eight-hour search through the 347-unit apartment complex, which required nearby residents to evacuate. The search involved SWAT and canine units, resulting in Shuford’s arrest.
Shuford is facing charges of murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. In September 2023, he pleaded not guilty to the charges. As of the latest update, he remains in custody with bail set at $3.075 million.
Prior to this incident, Shuford had a criminal record, with a conviction for second-degree robbery in a case that occurred in 2010.
The case sent shockwaves through the Old Pasadena neighborhood.
The preliminary hearing date-setting is expected to be held at 8:30 a.m. in Dept. H of the Pasadena Courthouse at 300 E. Walnut Street.
