The NAACP has announced that its 54th annual NAACP Image Awards will be broadcast live from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Feb. 25, 2023.
The ceremony will air live at 5 p.m. on BET.
The annual awards ceremony presented by the NAACP recognizes outstanding performances in film, television, theatre, music, and literature. Recently, the organizers added streaming and podcast categories to the competition.
Over 40 categories are included and voted on by NAACP members. Honorary awards have also been included, such as the President’s Award, the Chairman’s Award, the Entertainer of the Year, and the Hall of Fame Award.
In August, the NAACP announced new submission categories for Television + Streaming as well as Motion Picture: these are Outstanding Hairstyling, Outstanding Make-up, and Outstanding Costume Design.
Nominations for the 54th annual awards closed in November. Voting by the nominating committee will begin on Monday, Dec. 12, and ends on Jan. 3. The nominees will be announced on Jan. 12, when online public voting opens. The public voting closes on Feb. 10.
The NAACP said only submitted work will be reviewed for consideration. All entries are evaluated and narrowed to the top five in each category by members of the NAACP Image Awards Nominating Committees, whose members are individuals within the entertainment industry: studio or network executives, actors, artists, managers, agents, publicists, journalists, and literary agents, as well as NAACP Board members, NAACP Foundation Trustees, staff, partners and others.
