As federal education policies shift, NAACP Pasadena Branch leaders are organizing an event to help parents and educators understand what these changes mean for their children’s classrooms.

The Branch plans to convene local school board members and education advocates Wednesday, August 20, for a public forum aimed at connecting abstract federal policy decisions to the daily realities of Pasadena students and families.

“This event is about connecting the dots between federal education policies and the lived experiences of our students and families,” said Brandon Lamar, president of the NAACP Pasadena Branch. “We want our community to be informed, empowered, and engaged in shaping the future of education in Pasadena.”

The forum, “The President’s Table on Education: Navigating Federal Impacts on Education,” will feature a panel discussion with Pasadena Unified School District Board Members Patrice Marshall McKenzie and Scott Harden, and Pasadena City College Board of Trustees Member Steve A. Gibson. Lamar will moderate.

The conversation will focus on equity, access, and how federal decisions ripple through public education systems in Pasadena and beyond. Organizers seek to foster dialogue among educators, parents, and advocates about challenges and solutions for ensuring all students have opportunities to thrive.

The free event begins at 6:30 p.m. at Harambee Ministries, 1609 Navarro Ave. Registration is required at https://tinyurl.com/naacpprezoneducation.
