The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the winners of the 2022-23 Academic Awards on Thursday, awarding Caltech Men’s Basketball the Team Academic Excellence distinction in addition to naming six Beavers to the NABC Honors Court.
The group earned the team award for completing the 2022-23 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.00 scale.
Six members of the squad achieved individual honors, named NABC’s “Honor’s Court,” for finishing the 2022-23 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher on a 4.00 scale.
Seniors Ben Juarez, Chase Pagon, Jack Pierson, Kyle McGraw and Pavlos Stavrinides joined junior Leo Williams on the prestigious list.
Only juniors, seniors and graduate student men’s basketball players were eligible to receive the NABC’s special honor.
“Education is a core value of the NABC, and we are privileged to recognize these outstanding student-athletes and the coaches and support staff who invest in their development,” said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson.
In February, College Sports Communicators named Juarez, McGraw and Pagon to the 2022-23 Academic All-District team.
The academic awards come after an impressive season on the court for the Beavers, who scored a number of impressive wins this past season. Individually, Pagon earned Second-Team All-SCIAC and led the league in rebounds (10.2/g), propelling the Beavers the top rebounding average in the conference. Stavrinides led the conference in field goal percentage (.626), breaking the school record in single-season field goal percentage in the process.
