Pasadena residents are facing a sharp weather shift as forecasters warn of near-record heat Sunday followed by a dramatic cooldown Monday. The National Weather Service said highs will reach 89 degrees Sunday under clear skies before dropping nearly 20 degrees the next day as winds shift onshore.
A heat advisory is in effect Sunday for Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley, with forecasters urging residents to take precautions against heat-related illness. “People outside need to take precautions to avoid heat-related illness,” the National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard office said in its advisory.
Sunday’s conditions include sunny skies, highs near 89 degrees and northeast winds of 10 to 15 mph, gusting to 20 mph. Temperatures will fall to around 51 degrees overnight.
On Monday, highs will cool to about 73 degrees with light southwest winds. Tuesday will be the coolest day of the week, with highs near 71 degrees and partly cloudy skies.
Forecasters said temperatures will rebound midweek, climbing to 81 degrees Wednesday and surging into the low 90s Thursday and Friday. Saturday will ease slightly to 87 degrees. No rain is expected through March 23.
The National Weather Service said the roller-coaster pattern is driven by shifting wind conditions, with offshore flow producing heat and onshore flow bringing cooler air. Winds will ease Sunday night, turn onshore Monday and Tuesday, then return offshore midweek.
