New evidence has emerged in connection with a September 2025 officer-involved shooting that left a Pasadena police officer wounded, prompting the department to open a new investigation and place the officers allegedly involved on administrative leave, Police Chief Eugene Harris announced Monday.

The development comes days after the Pasadena Police Department released video footage of the Sept. 7 incident, which showed what Harris previously described as “unsafe and out-of-policy horseplay involving loaded firearms” inside the department’s parking structure.

According to Harris, a witness came forward after the video was released and provided additional information about the incident.

“Following the release of the OIS video last week, a witness came forward with additional information, and a new investigation has been opened based on documentation received Sunday, June 14,” Harris said in a statement.

Harris said the officers alleged to be involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

“The officers alleged to be involved have been placed on Administrative Leave — not simply because it’s policy, but because it reflects how seriously we take matters like this,” Harris said. “When questions arise about conduct, we act.”

The announcement raises new questions about an incident that had already resulted in significant disciplinary action.

According to published reports, one police has been fired following the department’s administrative investigation into the shooting. The officer who was struck in the shoulder recovered from his injuries and remains employed by the department.

Video released by the department shows one officer pointing a firearm at a colleague seated inside a patrol vehicle before holstering the weapon. Moments later, the officer inside the vehicle drew a firearm and pointed it toward the standing officer. The gun discharged, sending a round through the windshield and into the officer’s shoulder.

The shooting occurred as officers prepared to begin their shifts inside the Pasadena Police Department parking structure.

The incident remains under criminal review by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Harris declined to discuss the nature of the newly discovered evidence but said the department would conduct a thorough review before drawing conclusions.

“Thorough investigations take time, and I won’t rush one at the expense of the truth,” Harris said. “What I can promise is that I will be as transparent as California law allows and share information with this community as quickly as I’m able.”

The Public Safety Committee is scheduled to receive an informational report on the shooting Wednesday.
