The Pasadena Playhouse Parking Meter Zone Advisory Commission will meet Thursday, Sept. 10, to review a financial report showing that the city’s newly launched Playhouse-area parking meter zone generated $324,321 in metered revenue in its opening months.

The report, from Joaquin T. Siques, director of transportation, is for information only, and no vote is scheduled. The commission is strictly advisory; the City Council retains final authority over the fund. For residents, theatergoers and businesses near the Pasadena Playhouse, the figures offer an early look at whether the paid-parking program can cover its costs and repay the money the city borrowed to build it.

Meter installation is complete, and operations began April 6. The $324,321 reflected collections through June, and the fund projects Fiscal Year 2027 meter revenue of $1.3 million. The 107 multi-space meters carried a total budget allocation of $836,885, including signs and a 20% contingency.

To pay for the meters, the City Council approved a $900,000 short-term interfund loan in 2024, drawing $550,000 from the Old Pasadena Parking Meter Fund and $350,000 from the Civic Center Parking Meter Fund at 4% interest over three years. The fund is projected to close Fiscal Year 2026 with a $61,335 balance.
