Northwest Commission to Review Bad Weather Shelter, AI Business Development, Cell Service Improvements

The Pasadena Northwest Commission is scheduled to meet Tuesday, December 10, to receive updates on several key community initiatives to enhance services and infrastructure in Northwest Pasadena.

The 6:30 p.m. meeting at the Jackie Robinson Community Center will feature a presentation from Jennifer O’Reilly-Jones, Program Coordinator with the Department of Housing, providing updates on the City’s Bad Weather Shelter program.

Following earlier technology discussions, Robert McClinton of Small World Communications will conduct a workshop on artificial intelligence (AI) applications for business development.

This workshop builds on the Commission’s prior research, including Chair Carr’s participation in San Gabriel Valley Chamber’s Business Education webinar on AI’s potential for identifying optimal business types for Northwest Pasadena’s demographics.

The Commission will hear findings regarding cellular coverage gaps in Northwest Pasadena, with Commissioner Alex Mena presenting research on Municipal Code sections governing small cell site deployment. The presentation addresses specific concerns about tower locations, coverage areas, and plans for infrastructure improvements.

Lieutenant Domino Scott-Jackson will update violation statistics for Community Service Area 2, part of the Commission’s regular public safety monitoring.

The Commission will also review its Strategic Plan progress and receive a mid-year budget update from Deputy Director Lola Osborne.

Recent Commission work has included evaluating Community Development Block Grant funding for accessibility improvements at the Alkebu-lan Cultural Center and gathering community input through surveys about the Robinson Park Recreation Center Public Art Project.

• Written comments emailed to jwhitmore@cityofpasadena.net at least 30 minutes before the meeting
