A Pasadena police officer was injured in the hand saving a 3-year-old child from a suspect allegedly on drugs after the suspect screamed “Shoot me. Shoot me†and ran from responding police Thursday.
The incident began at 10:51 a.m. when a woman called police to report her child’s father was kidnapping their child and she believed he was under the influence of drugs.
Police located the man with the child wrapped in his arms near the intersection of Madison Ave. and Orange Grove Blvd., Pasadena Police Lt. Vasken Gourdikian said.
The suspect saw police, screamed at them and fled. Officers gave chase, and were able to subdue him and rescue the infant.
During the melee, one police officer was injured in the hand and required treatment at a local hospital, Gourdikian said.
The child was returned safely to the mother. The suspect, Alejandro Colotla, 21, a Pasadena resident, was arrested on suspicion of child neglect, child endangerment, being under the influence of a controlled substance and assault on an officer.
