The Pasadena Senior Games Track & Field competition will transform Occidental College this weekend into a vibrant showcase of athletic prowess among older adults. With 196 competitors registered across 534 events, the competition demonstrates that physical excellence transcends age boundaries, attracting participants from as far away as Japan and spanning ages from 50 to 97.

“The spirit of competition here is unbeatable,” said Akila Gibbs, Executive Director of the Pasadena Senior Center. “These athletes redefine what it means to stay active, proving that age is no barrier to speed, strength, and skill.”

The event highlights extraordinary individual achievements across a diverse range of competitions.

Ninety-seven-year-old Gunnar Linde prepares to compete in the 400M event, while 93-year-old Don Leis challenges competitors in sprints, long jump, and throwing events. Among the youngest competitors, Bryan Mu (50) and Elly Mann (50) will compete in sprint and mid-distance events.

The 50-meter dash emerges as the most popular event, with 47 men and 21 women set to sprint toward victory. Unique competition elements include an uncommon pole vault category featuring eight athletes, ranging from 57-year-old Lynn Larsen to 75-year-old Thierry Boucquey, the oldest competitor in this event.

Legendary competitors continue to demonstrate exceptional skill, such as Kathy Bergen (86), known for her dominance at National competitions, who will enter multiple sprint and field events. Sarah Sneider (81), a dedicated athlete, will compete in track sprints and shot put while also hosting the Powerlifting competition.

The Pasadena Senior Center, operating for 65 years, has been at the forefront of addressing aging challenges. With 10,000 Americans becoming older adults daily, the center provides innovative, nationally recognized programs. As a nonprofit organization, it offers comprehensive services including social interaction, fitness programs, basic support, education, volunteerism, and community activism—all without local, state, or federal funding.

The center operates Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Those interested can learn more by visiting www.pasadenaseniorcenter.org or calling 626-795-4331.
