Pasadena Altadena Links Award $33,000 In Scholarships to Local High School Seniors

The Pasadena-Altadena Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, on Wednesday announced this season’s scholarship award recipients. Special awards were given in collaboration with the Pasadena Altadena Community Endowment Fund.

Local high school seniors and college students were awarded a total of $33,000 in privately donated funds, as part of the organization’s Isaac McClellan Memorial Scholarship Program. Established in 1968, the scholarship program was launched in memory of distinguished African- American Los Angeles City Schools Area Superintendent, the late Isaac McClelland.

Due to observance of social distancing guidelines due to COVID-19, our scholars were awarded at a virtual reception with the Links chapter members along with student’s immediate families.

5. Jeannine Briggs, Marshall Fundamental, $2,000  Vice Presidential Award 
6. Oshea Foster, Muir High School, $2,000 Claudia Alexander Award 
7. Naomi Moore, Pasadena High School, $2,000  Distinguished Scholar Award 
8. Jade Williams, Muir High School, $2,000  Distinguished Scholar Award 
9. Keith Garnett, Marshall Fundamental, $2,000  Distinguished Scholar Award 
10. Anita Abledu, Marshall Fundamental, $1,000 Links Scholar Award 
11. Savannah Purnell, Marshall Fundamental, $1,000  Links Scholar Award 
12. London Morris, Muir High School, $1,500  Achieved Scholar Award

Beverly Allen, the Links Services to Youth Facet Chair said “it is truly an honor and privilege to award $33,000 to some of the best and brightest young men and women of the Pasadena Unified School District’s Class of 2022!” 

The Pasadena-Altadena (CA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated is celebrating 59 years as a women’s volunteer service organization committed to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the cultural and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry here in Pasadena.

The community service organization maintains a roster of 52 Active and Alumnae members in the local chapter with a legacy of friends providing service that changes lives.

The Links, Incorporated is focused on creating transformational programming and impacting lives in communities of color through Services to Youth, The Arts, National Trends and Services, International Trends and Services, and Health and Human Services. Their stated mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities. Their motto sums it up best: “The Links, Incorporated: Linked in Friendship, Connected in Service.”
