Celebrating New Year’s Eve and attending the Rose Bowl are going to be expensive for out-of-towners who have not yet secured a hotel room.
A new survey from LosAngelesHotels.org has found that hotel rates are skyrocketing in Pasadena and around Los Angeles this December 31. That is aside from the fact that only a few of these establishments still have rooms available for New Year’s Eve.
According to the survey, Pasadena hotels are virtually sold out on both December 31 and January 1. To stay in the home of the Rose Bowl, a visitor will have to spend at least $500 for a decent hotel room, although a few low-budget motels are still offering rooms for $200 to $300 per night.
LosAngelesHotels.org is saying that on the average, hotels in Los Angeles are charging over 147 percent more compared to their regular rates. Three-star Hotel Solaire, located next to LA’s McArthur Park Metro station, is reportedly charging $532 for a double room on New Year’s Eve, more than 350 percent of their regular $116 rate.
In Pasadena, the Rose Inn is charging $690 on New Year’s Eve, up by 576 percent for their regular rate, says the LosAngelesHotels.org survey. Vagabond Inn Pasadena is charging $805 when the regular rate is $129, according to the survey.
The survey said Hollywood hotels have increased their rates by a more moderate 83 percent on the average, although the least expensive room would still be $300 on December 31.
For even cheaper accomodations, a year-end traveler will have to look around the LAX airport where rooms can still be found for less than $200 on New Year’s Eve.
