The At Home store at 3795 E. Foothill Boulevard in East Pasadena is among 26 locations the furniture and home décor retailer will shutter nationwide by the end of September as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring.
The Coppell, Texas-based chain filed for bankruptcy protection on June 16, citing rising interest rates, persistent inflation and higher customs costs from increased tariffs, according to court documents.
At the time of the filing, the company employed about 7,170 workers.
At Home is one of several large retailers to seek bankruptcy protection this year, joining chains such as Big Lots, Joann Fabrics, Kohl’s, JCPenney, Macy’s and Party City.
Company officials said many of its remaining stores are operating “at sub-optimal performance levels,” making closures necessary to reduce expenses.
The retailer has already closed six locations in the past year and continues to evaluate its store footprint amid broader economic pressures reshaping the brick-and-mortar retail landscape.
The closures affect stores across California, New York, Florida and other states, including locations in San Jose, Costa Mesa, Tustin, Long Beach, Sacramento and Chico.
Two stores previously announced for closure — in Princeton, New Jersey, and Wauwatosa, Wisconsin — will remain open after the company reversed course, USA Today reported.
