Pasadena Braces for Extended Heat as Advisories Stretch Into Next Week

Dangerous heat is expected to intensify across Pasadena and the greater Los Angeles region next week, with federal forecasters extending existing heat advisories and warning that an extreme heat watch will follow early Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

A heat advisory covering inland coastal areas — including downtown Los Angeles and Pasadena-adjacent communities — will remain in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday. Forecasters said temperatures in those areas could reach the mid-90s.

A separate advisory remains in place for the San Gabriel Valley, the San Fernando Valley, the Santa Clarita Valley, the San Gabriel Mountains and the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway corridor. Both advisories had been scheduled to expire Friday night but were extended due to persistent heat and the likelihood of more extreme temperatures beginning Tuesday.

When the advisories expire Tuesday morning, they will be replaced by an extreme heat watch lasting through Thursday evening. Forecasters said temperatures in some valley and mountain communities could reach 112 degrees, while inland coastal areas could climb into the low triple digits.

Friday temperatures were expected to remain 5 to 10 degrees above normal, ranging from the upper 70s and 80s near beaches to the 90s in most valleys and 100 to 110 degrees in the hottest valley and desert areas.

“Moderate heat impacts will continue through Friday away from the coast in response to a strong ridge of high pressure over the region,” the weather service said.

A slight cooldown is expected this weekend as the ridge weakens and shifts east, though inland communities — including Pasadena — will continue to experience heat impacts. Forecasters said temperatures will begin rising again Tuesday, potentially reaching “Major Heat Risk” levels, with monsoonal moisture adding to the discomfort.

That moisture could also bring a 10% to 20% chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms beginning Sunday and continuing into next week, mainly in mountain areas of eastern Los Angeles County.
