The vibrant Kona Ice truck parked outside of the Pasadena City Hall Thursday morning from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the third annual “National Chill Out” Day.
Tamar Hill, Owner of Kona Ice Central Pasadena, was greeted with a constant flow of foot traffic looking to quench their thirst with a rainbow assortment of syrups in a hefty cup of shaved ice.
“We’re just here for the ‘Chill Out Day’ and giving people free ice and bringing smiles to weary taxpayers,” explains Hill.
With tropical music playing and ten featured flavors, guests were able to dress the ice to their liking using the self serve dispensers built in the truck.
“My personal favorite flavor is Tiger’s Blood,” said Hill.
Kona Shaved Ice has trucks from New York to Hawaii and is no stranger to philanthropy. Through partnerships with schools, youth sports leagues and other neighborhood organizations, Kona Ice has given back over $35 million to the communities it serves.
“It’s nice to enjoy this on a hot day and especially on a day like tax day where lots of people may be in need of something free for once,” said guest Bryce Darrow.
Until next year, today was the day that Kona ensured no taxation without relaxation for Pasadena.
