Pasadena City College and UCLA to Unveil Partnership Banner at Wednesday Celebration

Pasadena City College and UCLA’s Center for Community College Partnerships will unveil a partnership banner at a community celebration Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the college’s Westerbeck Recital Hall.

The college says the event marks a ten-year partnership between the two institutions and their shared work on transfer pathways to UCLA. A reception follows the program, and parking is available in Lot 5.

The organizers list the event as “PCC | CCCP A Transformative Partnership Built to Last.”

Rep. Judy Chu, Assemblymember John Harabedian and Pasadena Councilmember Jason Lyon are scheduled to attend, along with students, faculty, staff and community members, according to the college’s advisory. Lyon represents Council District 7, which the city lists as home to the college, and Harabedian’s 41st Assembly District includes Pasadena.

UCLA’s Center for Community College Partnerships works to increase transfer rates and success among underserved community college students by equipping them with knowledge of the transfer pathways open to them. UCLA lists Pasadena City College among its community college partners.

The college is also a participating campus in UCLA’s Transfer Alliance Program, which certifies students who complete an honors or scholars program and gives them priority consideration in UCLA’s transfer admission process. PCC’s own honors program carries partnerships that give qualified participants priority admission to UCLA and UC Riverside.

The college said it is ranked first in the state for transfer to the University of California and California State University systems, educates more than 22,000 students and is a three-time Aspen Institute Top Ten Community College.
