Pasadena City College to Celebrate Filipino American History Month

Pasadena City College will mark Filipino American History Month with a campus celebration Wednesday, Oct. 1, featuring cultural presentations and free food.

The event runs from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Creveling Lounge at 1570 E. Colorado Blvd.

T.R.O.P.A. and Dr. Ben Fortun will give presentations about Filipino culture and history. The Park’s Finest will provide complimentary food.

T.R.O.P.A. stands for The Reunited Organization of Pilipinx Americans. The group is a cultural and social club at the college which connects students with the campus community and teaches them about Filipino traditions. Activities include traditional dances, food, customs and cultural heritage.

In Filipino, “tropa” means one’s regular social group or chosen family outside the home.

T.R.O.P.A. and the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American community at Pasadena City College are sponsoring the event. APIDA includes the APIDA Advisory Assembly and the Coalition of Asian Pacific Employees.

These groups support students and staff from Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander and Desi American backgrounds. They offer leadership programs, resources and advocacy for diverse populations at the college.
