On Wednesday, the Pasadena Area Community College District Board of Trustees approved a contract with Dr. Jose Gomez and officially appointed him as PCC’s Interim Superintendent/President for one year.

Dr. Gomez’s annual salary is to be $330,000. He starts in the position on August 1.

He replaces Dr. Erica Endorjinas whose last day at PCC is July 31. Endorjinas is moving to assume the Presidency of Santa Barbara City College,

Dr. Gomez previously served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at California State University, Los Angeles.

The decision to appoint Dr. Gomez was unanimous.

At the same meeting, the PCC Board conducted its annual organizational meeting and selected new officers. Kristine Kwong was elected President, Alton Wang Vice President, and Steve Gibson Clerk, with the Secretary position assigned to the Superintendent/President of the college by default.

Several Board policies underwent changes with five amendments approved in areas of Public Records, Antiracism, Standards of Scholarship, Assessment Services, and the Location of District Workshops and Retreats.

The Trustees decided to take steps for financial independence from the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE).

The board voted in favor of maintaining their membership in a countywide program aimed at recouping delinquent property tax revenues. They also approved a contract with Aviate Enterprises to purchase 10 electric utility carts, worth $250,000.

The Board took action which paves the way for the Los Angeles Regional Consortium, an organization housed at PCC that allocates state funding to 19 community colleges across Los Angeles County, to fund 11 pathway coordinator positions at local K-12 districts.

The Board announced several staffing changes, welcoming new instructors in various fields including Computer Information Systems, Psychology, Nursing, Sociology, and French.

Furthermore, the Board outlined shifts in responsibilities for some of its existing staff, including Maria Barrientos who now acts as the Learning Assistance Center assistant, and Moises Perez, who has been promoted from shipping and receiving clerk to accounting technician.

Several departures from the organization were also confirmed, including the retirement of Health Sciences division instructor Mary Huffman after 25 years of service.

The meeting documents can be accessed online. The full board packet is here (click “July 19, 2023” under the “Meetings” tab). Video of the meeting is also available on our YouTube channel.

The next regular business meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 23, at 4 p.m. in Creveling Lounge.
