The Pasadena Community Foundation on Wednesday announced a new partnership with Planned Parenthood Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley to provide vaccine clinics and Planned Parenthood’s health center in the northern end of the city.
The PCF is providing funding for the vaccination clinics, which are being held at PPPSGV’s Health Center at 1045 N. Lake Avenue, at Belvidere Street, with support from the Pasadena Public Health Department, the PCF said in a written statement.
“PCF’s grant enabled an allocation of 1,600 Moderna vaccine doses from the city’s health department to PPPSGV’s Health Center in north Pasadena, where the staff has quickly built capacity for a 16-week, community-focused vaccination clinic,” the statement said. “Clinics are held twice a week and are designed to outreach, educate, and deliver vaccine in a culturally competent manner to Pasadena’s most vulnerable populations.”
PCF staff members also canvassed the area to spread the word and get essential workers who qualify for the vaccine enrolled, as well as help dispel common “myths” about the vaccines, representatives said.
The collaboration has resulted in 550 total doses of vaccine distributed, with about 225 recipients having received both doses, according to the PCF statement. Seniors accounted for 33% of the recipients.
Pasadena Director of Public Health Dr. Ying-Ying Goh said the effort was helpful in the fight to control the pandemic.
“The PPPSGV community vaccine clinic is different from and compliments larger mass-vaccination sites by reaching communities that might not otherwise access the COVID-19 vaccine,” Goh said. “Our data show that partnerships with trusted community-based organizations measurably increase the number of Latinx and African-American individuals who are vaccinated.”
Goh added that the organization’s presence and relationships in the community are a significant benefit in helping to reach communities hit hardest by the pandemic.
PPPSGV President and CEO Sherri Bonner said the organization was “incredibly proud to partner with Pasadena Community Foundation in establishing a COVID-19 vaccine clinic that provides access to people heavily impacted by the pandemic.”
PCF President and CEO Jennifer DeVoll said the group champions equitable vaccination to help alleviate the impacts of the year-old pandemic.
“This has been a meaningful collaboration between the city, PPPSGV and PCF and underscores the importance of an innovative model for vaccine rollout,” DeVoll said.
