The Pasadena Community Foundation awarded a $200,000 grant to Heritage Housing Partners for the construction of studio apartment units at 2322 E. Foothill Boulevard that will soon house six students from Pasadena City College who are experiencing homelessness.
The project is part of the Pasadena Community Foundation’as Affordable Housing Initiative, it said on Facebook.
Since its launch in 2019, the PCF’s Affordable Housing Initiative has so far awarded $850,000 to a number of housing projects — creating a total of 100 residential units within Pasadena.
Last April, the Pasadena City Council approved a $2 million loan agreement that allowed Heritage Housing to acquire and rehabilitate the property.
Heritage Housing plans to renovate the existing structures and reconfigure the five existing floor plans to provide six units of interim housing for homeless and at-risk youth, generally from the ages 18-24.
All six of the units will be no more than 375 square feet.
New drywall, flooring, and bath and kitchen fixtures will be installed at the studio units, along with microwaves, ranges, garbage disposals, and refrigerators, according to a city staff report submitted to the City Council last April when the affordable housing loan agreement of HHP was considered.
