Public Works director Greg de Vinck reports that the city of Pasadena continues to invest in maintaining safe, accessible and reliable streets. The Annual Citywide Street Resurfacing and ADA Improvement Program for Fiscal Year 2025 is described as an ongoing program that repairs pavement, improves accessibility and extends the useful life of Pasadena’s roadway network.
The Fiscal Year 2025 project resurfaced approximately 11.5 miles of asphalt pavement across neighborhoods citywide, representing a significant reinvestment in local streets. Work focused on driving surfaces and supporting features to enhance the overall condition of the roadways.
Crews removed and replaced damaged concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks to improve safety and walkability. They also installed 35 Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps to support safer, more accessible crossings for people with disabilities. Public works teams adjusted existing utility manholes, replaced traffic signal loop detectors and installed new striping and raised pavement markers to improve visibility and traffic flow.
The program included targeted enhancements at key locations. At Rosemont Avenue and Seco Street, crews constructed crosswalks, ADA ramps and sidewalk repairs to improve walkability in response to resident requests near the Rose Bowl. On University Drive, the city resurfaced the street in coordination with Pasadena Water & Power after a water main replacement, and the Hill Avenue Library parking lot was resurfaced to improve access and surface conditions for patrons.
Looking ahead, the Public Works engineering team has begun planning the Fiscal Year 2026 Annual Street Resurfacing Program, continuing the city’s commitment to safe, well-maintained and accessible streets.
